Uses of Acamprosate Calcium Tablets

Acamprosate Calcium tablets are used in the management of Alcohol dependence. Acamprosate Calcium tablets shall not be used as a standalone treatment for alcohol dependence. They are most effective when used as part of a comprehensive treatment plan that may include counseling, support groups, and other interventions aimed at addressing the psychological and behavioral aspects of alcohol addiction.

Acamprosate works by balancing the brain chemistry caused by regular alcohol consumption. It is useful in reducing alcohol cravings and withdrawal symptoms by interacting with specific receptors in the brain, including N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors and metabotropic glutamate receptors. By modulating these receptors, acamprosate helps restore the balance between inhibitory and excitatory neurotransmission, reducing the urge to drink alcohol and helping to prevent relapse.
